Amazing DIY Christmas gifts

Christmas is just around the corner, and you know what that means: Christmas gifts. As a college student on a tight budget, it can be difficult to get that friend, family member, or special someone an expensive gift to show how much you love them. However, that does not mean that you should lose hope. There are plenty of gifts you can make on your own. It doesn't matter if you are a horrible artist, poor chef, or don't mix well with arts and crafts, here are a couple of ideas that are simple, charming, easy and affordable.

Home Grown Crystals

What you need: A Mold, Liquid Glue, Alum, Water, Food Coloring

Step 1:

Find a mold of your choice. You can grow these into whatever shape you want, but it's important that the mold you choose is concave. For example, measuring spoons or small cups will do the trick.

Step 2:

Put a thin layer of liquid glue on the sides of the mold. Do not use too much; act as if you were glazing food. Sprinkle crystallized alum (which can be found in a spice section at any grocery store) on the inside of the mold.

Step 3:

Boil two cups of water then mix food coloring and a cup of alum. Once the alum completely dissolves let the mixture cool for about 10 minutes. Pour the solution into your mold and let the crystals form!

Christmas in a Jar

What you need:

Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Peppermint, Rosemary, Cranberries, Dried Oranges, Ribbon, and an empty jar.

Mix all the spices together. When you smell the mixture and it makes you feel the joy of the holidays, stop mixing.

Add your spice mixture to the empty jar first, then proceed to add cranberries and oranges. Add rosemary as if you were garnishing a fancy dinner.
