Best DIY Presents

Regardless of how well we know our friends, we all struggle from time to time picking out a gift for them. I, like many people, always wanted to give meaningful gifts to my friends, but after countless hours of unsuccessful searching, I would hopelessly give up. So, I would just default to your typical “gift card” gift. However, I have recently decided to diminish my poor gift-giving habits and give my friends handcrafted gifts that they will actually save and enjoy. There is nothing that says “I care about our friendship” more than a homemade gift that you put a lot of time into. I will say that the look on their faces when they see specially made gifts just for them is priceless. Here are 7 of my favorite DIY best friends gifts that they will LOVE!
1. “Open When” Cards
There is something so touching about these notes. Each letter is to be opened during different points in a person’s life. I usually make about 15 different cards, and this has always been a good number for me. My favorite one to make is the “Open me when you need a laugh” card. In this, I will put embarrassing pictures of us or write about our funniest memories together. Your friend chooses when they want to open each card, so they may remain unopened for years.

2. Deck of Compliments – 52 Things I Love About You
Let’s be real here; who doesn’t love compliments?! You are being acknowledged for certain attributes and they are an instant mood booster. Grab an old deck of cards, hole punch the sides, and type up compliments for your friend. Print and glue them onto the cards, holding them together with binder rings. This gift is a guaranteed success!

3. A room filled with balloons!
This is definitely one of the most visually appealing gifts I have ever seen. I love the idea of tying cute pictures or notes to the bottom of the balloons because it personalizes the decorations. This will make them smile!

4. Homemade CD with their favorite songs on it
I once received this as a birthday gift, and it was one of the most amazing presents I have ever been given. Because my friend knew me so well, she knew exactly what type of music I like and it is such a meaningful gift. Decorate the CD cover and include a brief note, making sure to write down the song list somewhere on or inside the cover.

5. Decorated Coffee Mug
Make one for your friend and one for yourself so that even when time and distance prevents you from having your beloved “coffee dates”, you can feel like you are still together.

6. Personalized Phone Case
I’m going to be totally honest here; I am obsessed with iPhone cases. For real though, it is borderline hoarding. I love the idea of a phone case with personalized pictures of me and my friends. Because we are always on our phones, it is a constant reminder of the fun times we have shared together.
7. “I Love You Because” Mason Jar
Decorate a Mason Jar and write 365 notes to your friend. They can range from quotes, song lyrics, memories together, pictures, compliments, etc. What you put inside the jar is totally up to you; this adorable gift gives your friend something to look forward to every single day of the year and will hopefully brighten up their days!
